Comprehensive support in calculating the company's carbon footprint
We will calculate your organization's carbon footprint in all ranges (1, 2 and 3) according to the GHG Protocol. We will prepare a full report presenting not only the results, but also the methods of analysis and the coefficients used.

Analysis and calculation of the company's carbon footprint
With increasing pressure and business commitment to sustainability issues, more and more attention is being paid to managing greenhouse gas emissions. Calculating the carbon footprint of an enterprise/organization is an absolutely fundamental issue in this regard, it is the key to defining a decarbonization strategy that allows to reduce emissions. Moreover, disclosure of emissions information is also part of ESG reporting for CSRD companies. Carrying out an analysis of the carbon footprint of an organization therefore combines many benefits and fulfills many business objectives.
Requirements for carbon footprint calculations, reporting and verification are contained in international standards such as the GHG Protocol or ISO 14064. These are extensive documents that can be challenging for companies to assimilate and implement. That is why we not only provide comprehensive support in the calculation of the carbon footprint of the organization, but also share knowledge and experience through training to approximate the analysis of greenhouse gas emissions.
We have in-depth knowledge and many years of experience in calculating the emissions of enterprises and products. For our customers, we have prepared more than 200 such calculations, including complex EPD environmental declarations.
Our Projects
Pollena S.A. was faced with the need to carry out a complete analysis of the organization's carbon footprint in all three areas. This was crucial to meet the expectations of business partners and to report to the CDP. The company already had previous experience in calculating the carbon footprint in ranges 1 and 2 (also implemented with VIVERNO), but the real challenge arose with the scope 3 calculated for the first time. Already at the conceptualization stage of the project, it was known that due to the requirements of the value chain, the carbon footprint analysis would be subject to third-party verification.
VIVERNO was responsible for preparing the sheets and surveys, which made it much easier for us to collect the required data. This structured approach to collecting information allowed us to analyze the data provided more effectively and to select the appropriate coefficients. Thanks to their support, we have calculated the carbon footprint according to the GHG Protocol standard.
In response to the customer's needs, we developed a detailed plan for calculating the carbon footprint in ranges 1, 2 and 3. We guided the client through the selection of the range 3 category, helped to identify all emission sources and created appropriate forms. It should be noted that the 3 range covered as many as 10 categories, including such demanding parts as category 1: Purchased goods and services.
We have also prepared a team on the client side to be able to efficiently implement each stage. In addition, we selected qualitatively appropriate indicators, guided by the hierarchy of indicators contained in the GHG Protocol standard. The company's carbon footprint analysis report showed the company a complete picture of its operations in terms of greenhouse gas emissions. The calculation became part of the disclosure to the CDP and also formed the basis for the development of a decarbonization strategy.

What is the scope of the analysis of the carbon footprint of an enterprise?
The analysis of the carbon footprint of an enterprise/organization according to the GHG Protocol standard is performed in 3 ranges.
Scope 1 includes direct emissions resulting from the combustion of fuels in stationary or mobile sources owned or controlled by the company, as well as emissions resulting from technological processes or volatile refrigerants.
Scope 2 refers to indirect emissions resulting from the consumption of purchased or supplied external electricity, heat, process steam and cooling.
Scope 3 includes 15 categories covering other indirect emissions across the value chain, e.g. from the manufacture of purchased raw materials or semi-finished products, waste management, transport of raw materials and products, business trips by employees or the use of products by end-users.
The calculation ranges depend on the purpose behind the analysis. It can be dictated by reporting plans, requirements from trading partners or expectations of financial institutions.
Does VIVERNO count the company's carbon footprint in all 3 ranges?
Yes, at VIVERNO we carry out the calculation of the company's carbon footprint in the full spectrum, i.e. all 3 ranges.
What databases does VIVERNO use to calculate the company's carbon footprint?
To calculate the carbon footprint of the organization, we use the Swiss Ecoinvent database, emission factors from the Association of Issuing Bodies (AIB) and emission factors and indices from the Global Warming Potential (GWP) from the latest report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
In the process of determining the carbon footprint, we calculate the emissions of all the greenhouse gases indicated in the Kyoto Protocol. Emissions resulting from the activities covered by the inventory are presented in CO2 equivalent.
Is the analysis and calculation of the carbon footprint of an organization mandatory?
In theory no, in practice very often yes. It is not true — which is unfortunately often heard in the public space — that the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) and the European Sustainable Development Reporting Standards (ESRS) have introduced the obligation to report the carbon footprint of companies. This is not the case, because the issues of climate change are the subject of a twofold analysis. So much regulatory theory, because in practice the vast majority of companies will consider climate change and their emissions relevant (if not, the company will have to explain in detail why this is not the case). In addition, calculating the carbon footprint is becoming a business requirement behind which value chains stand. Companies are increasingly demanding data from each other in this regard.
Does VIVERNO verify the calculation of the company's carbon footprint?
Yes, we provide such services. In order to ensure compliance, consistency and reliability of analyses, we verify the organisation's carbon footprint based on ISO 14064 Part 3.
